West Side woman accused of using sandal, hanger to beat girls

BOTH DIRECTIONS TRAVELING SMOOTHLY. LESLIE? Leslie: THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MARCUS. A MOTHER’S INSTINCT MAY BE TO PROTECT HER CHILDREN. INVESTIGATORS SAY CHILDREN ON THE WEST SIDE NEEDED PROTECTION FROM THEIR MOTHER. KATRINA WEBBER IS LIVE AT THE MAGISTRATE’S OFFICE. YOU SAY SHE’S ACCUSED OF BEATING HER DAUGHTERS WITH MORE THAN JUST HER HANDS? Katrina: YES. A SANDAL AND A CLOSE HANGER ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS INVESTIGATORS SAY WERE INVOLVED. 28-YEAR-OLD WAS ANGRY WITH HER TWO DAUGHTERS AND GOT PHYSICAL WITH THEM EARLIER THIS MONTH. THEY SAY THE CHILDREN TOLD THEM THAT SHE BEAT THEM WITH HER SANDAL AND A CLOSE HANGER. THE CASE CAME TO LIGHT WHEN ONE OF THE GIRLS COMPLAINED AT SCHOOL ABOUT PAIN IN HER SHOULDER. THE ARREST AFFIDAVIT SAYS THE CHILD DID HAVE A RED MARK THERE AND HER LITTLE SISTER HAD ONE ON HER HANDS. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS WENT TO EDGEWOOD ISD POLICE WHO INVESTIGATED THIS PLACE. THEY SAID THAT CALDERON TOLD THEM SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORIES AND BLAMED THE GIRLS FOR CAUSING THEIR OWN INJURIES. INVESTIGATORS SAY SHE ALSO CALLED THOSE CHILDREN LIARS. SHE WAS ARRESTED EARLIER THIS WEEK AND THEN RELEASED ON BOND. THE AFFIDAVIT SAYS THAT THOSE TWO CHILDREN AND SEVERAL OTHERS WERE REMOVED FROM HER HOME.
