Travels With Charlie: The Rose Lady Slipper of Rehoboth Beach

HERE AT WBOC IS TO BE RESPONSIVE TO OUR VIEWERS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE SOMETHING THEY THINK WE OUGHT TO SEE. SO, WHEN CHARLIE GOT A CALL ABOUT A HILLSIDE COVERED WITH WILD ORCHIDS NORMALLY FOUND IN TWO’S AND THREE’S, YOU CAN BE SURE HE WAS ON THE CASE IN A HEARTBEAT. HERE’S WHAT HE FOUND. KATHY & JOHN OSTERERHOLM WE’VE SEEN LADY SLIPPERS IN SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, AND IN MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS IN BLACKSBURG VIRGINIA, AND WE’VE ALSO SEEN THE ROSE LADY SLIPPER. YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THAT YOU’D FIND THESE BEAUTIFUL WILDFLOWERS THIS CLOSE TO THE OCEAN AND IN AN AREA WHERE STANDING HERE YOU’D NEVER KNOW YOU WERE IN REHOBOTH BEACH. NOT AT ALL! CHARLES PAPARELLA / REPORTING TO EXPERIENCE THE WORLD, YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE WORLD. KATHY WE TRY TO BIKE AND WALK ALL OF THE TIME, TO SEE WHAT NATURE BRINGS AT EACH STEP OF ITS PHASES. OH, YES! CP THE GARDEN THEY DISCOVERED IS NOT TENDED BY ANYONE BUT MOTHER NATURE, BOTHERED IN ANY WAY, SO IN FAIRNESS TO THESE FLOWERS, I CAN’T TELL YOU WHERE THEY ARE. I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ORCHIDS BUT I DO KNOW THEY LIKE PEACE AND QUIET. SO DO KATHY AND JIM. KATHY : WE HAVE SEVENTY-TWO YEARS OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHING BETWEEN US. EARTH SCIENCE AND OCEANOGRAPHY. AND READING AND ELEMENTARY, AND I FINISHED TEACHING AT DEL TECH. CP I’D GUESS A LITTLE PEACE AND QUIET WOULD BE ABOUT RIGHT.. AT AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION NEAR REHOBOTH BEACH, DELAWARE, THIS IS CP WBOC. [D3]TRAVELS WITH CHARLIE-TAG IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO PICK ANY TYPE OF ORCHID ON FEDERAL LAND, BUT ANYWHERE ELSE… IT’S JUST A BAD IDEA. LADY SLIPPERS TAKE YEARS TO GROW AND WILL ONLY LAST A DAY OR SO AFTER THEY’RE PICKED. “OVERWORKED AND UNDERPAID.”
