How to Lattice Lace your shoes – Professor Shoelace

G’day everyone, Ian Fieggen here, also known as “Professor Shoelace”. Today’s video is a decorative lacing method called “Lattice Lacing”. Now this has the segments running at a steep angle such that they can be woven through each other like a lattice. Let’s look at that firstly on my Ian’s Shoelace Site. Zoom in a bit. Scroll up to the diagram and animate it for you. And you’ll see that the lace segments run at a steep angle upwards, steep angle downwards, steep angle upwards, and at each section they’re woven through each other. Now let’s look at that on a real shoe. I’ve started with the lacing running straight across the bottom and out through the bottom eyelets. Now I find this easiest to do if you weave one end first. So I’ll start by running the right end up by 1, 2, 3 eyelets and in through that empty eyelet. Now, straight up the inside, out through the next higher one. Diagonally down – three and in through – that one. Straight up the inside – and out. Diagonally up three and this time we’ll emerge through the top eyelet. Just makes it a bit easier to tie at the top. So that’s one end completed. Now we can weave the other end, so we go over, under and over and feed in – again through the 1, 2, 3 eyelets higher up. Straight up the inside – and out. Now we go under, over, under – – bit of weaving once again – – and in through the eyelet near the bottom. Gets a bit tricky to pull it out but – – just have to work at it. Straight up the inside. And finally we go over, under and over again. Under the side and out through the top eyelet. There’s our finished lattice. We can tie it off using our favorite knot. I’m using my “Ian Knot” – – the world’s fastest shoelace knot. And that’s it – that’s “Lattice Lacing”. Hope you enjoyed it!
