You need new boot struts with the same end fixing as I have then you need a 2x 25mm light load die spring with 10mm rod diameter and 2 x 32mm heavy load die springs with 10mm road diameter. Fit them and that's it
that is bloody great, can you let me know where you got the bits from to do this
I the struts from sgs engineering in the uk and the spring from bearing boys.co.uk
This is cool as fuck.
Darran? Witch one struts do i need how many dia rod struts are they?
They are e39 struts, I just had to replace my old struts and they were worn out. I got them from sgs engineering . The ball connection at the bottom is the most important bit
Whats you email?
Darran do i need the end fixing ball sockets or the
Darran do i need the end fixing ball sockets or the ball studs? And what mm?
Yes the ball is needed, the standard ball is not removable (Well it wasnt on mine) but the springs need to be able to go down to the ball
Darran, do i need the standard sgs engeneering solition e39 sruts or the other one? Wi h one do i need, i see different struts for the e39
Yes just the standard struts. The only piece that's important is the removable ball connection at the end it needs to be the same mine
Ok thanks darran, i let u know
cool , where springs purchase?
Update on this guys.
After a while the springs have softened and is no longer opening fully, I have ordered another set as a last trial.
with the current springs added together the lenght is 55mm and compressed length is 35mm. I have ordered 2 xmedium load 64mm springs with compressed length 33mm so there should be less strain on the struts when the boot lid is closed and they should push further which will hopefully overcome the issue with the boot lid not opening fully.
I just tried this but my trunk won`t close, did you have to realign yours after adding the springs ?
No issues at all. It takes a little more force to close but nothing major
No mine had no issues closing,
Will this work on bmw e90 .could you suggest the spring sizes for it. Thanks
My email [email protected] I really want to attempt on my bmw e92 325i 2007
Yes it will work. But so far we only have it tested on an e90 with a carbon boot lid which is much lighter.
