Crews Battle Wildfire

THE DROUGHT. WE BEGIN WITH CBS 42 NEWS REPORTER JAMES MCCONATHA WHO IS LIVE IN ST. CLAIR COUNTY. THIS FIRE STARTED MONDAY AND IT WAS CONTAINED BUT IT JUMPED THE FIRE LINES TODAY. TAKE A LOOK BEHIND ME HERE, YOU CAN SEE THE SMOKE. WE’RE AT THE INTERSECTION OF HWY 411 SOUTH AND HWY 231 IN ASHVILLE ABOUT 8 MILES AWAY FROM THE FIRE. I SPOKE WITH COLEEN VANSANT EARLIER AND SHE TOLD ME THE FIRE HAD ALREADY BURNED 62 ACRES BEFORE IT JUMPED THE CONTAINMENT LINES. THEY WONT KNOW HOW MUCH MORE LAND THE FIRE WILL BURN UNTIL ITS CONTAINED AGAIN. THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO HOMES OR BUSINESSES. ITS A VERY RURAL AREA, BUT THE BIGGEST THREAT MAY ACTUALLY BE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS THEMSELVES.
