Compression Boots for Triathletes

– I know, it’s exciting,
it’s very exciting, right? Are you seeing this? Yeah, so they’re actually
doing drills that — Prizes for who can annoy her the most. (crinkling) Morning, Trainiacs. I know, it’s exciting,
it’s very exciting, right? Are you seeing this? So, Trainiacs, what’s inside this box is something that I’ve wanted since No Triathlon Kim and
I went on our honeymoon to Kona, the race. Ironman World Championship. Three, shhh. Three years ago. We sat there, trying this out, and I fell in love. Big fan, big fan. One of the best recovery tools that you can possibly get. How do I deal with this
without making a mess? Uh. Oh, a mess already! Hey, hey, hey, those aren’t for eating. Grace. Here. Nope! Hmmm, what if I do it like this? Ooh. (tape ripping) I’m not all into the whole Casey Neistat, make your surroundings just a disaster during an unboxing. I am into the most controlled, stress free, clean unboxings imaginable. Oh yeah! Brilliant, brilliant stuff here. (plastic squeaking) Who’s excited? Who’s excited? This is the most carefully wrapped package I’ve ever received. Precious goods. Like Gracie. Like you’re precious, I’d wrap you up. Mmm. (kiss) Mmm. Mmm, I know. Getting there. Getting there. (exclamation of exertion) There we go. Recovery pump. (fabric zipping) (objects clattering and clicking) (zipper zipping) Program one. Recovery, yes, please. So Trainiacs, this is it. These are the RP Sport Recovery boots. And you might know more about Normatec, but these are basically the same premise, well, like, exactly the
same science behind it, some really smart people. I tried these out back at the
Ironman World Championship in 20 — when did we get married? Don’t NTK that I don’t know the year. 2013, 14? And the premise behind recovery boots is like, compression sleeves, compression socks, but a little bit more
sophisticated than that. You know when you say, like,
get hit in the shoulder and you go, ah, and you press on it? And then when you release,
that ends up creating a rush of blood to that area to start repairing it. Now the same thing happens
with compression in your legs. When you beat up your legs, you want a whole lot of
blood going to that area, and starting to repair it. Now with compression socks, the issue is, you look kind of silly, yeah. And it’s kind of
inconvenient to put those on and walk around with
them throughout the day. And also it doesn’t go
all the way up your leg. In the case of these boots, what happens is down at the bottom, by your toes, that fills up first, and then what it’s doing is it’s slowly filling up and inflating the rest of the boot so that it’s pushing all of the blood flow back up into your body. When you stand up, when you’re sitting, you’ve got a lot of blood that pools down in the bottom of your legs, and what happens is your lymph system, your circulatory system, it kind of just becomes stagnant because it’s always
working against gravity. In this case, your circulatory system kind of gets jump started, and in particular, your lymph system, the only way that it can be activated, which is like, sort of the fluid that makes our body go round, the only way that that can be activated is with movement. So when you’re sitting stationary, like so many of us are in modern day, you aren’t actually
working that lymph system, and that’s becoming a big thing that a lot of people are
focusing on for recovery. This allows that lymph system to move while you aren’t necessarily moving. So in my case, why I wanted these is because editing videos, working at a desk job, even though we might be standing, we’re still basically stationary. I can put these babies on, and I’m gonna go in and
edit today’s vlog in them. I’m just gonna chill out here, and bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. And meanwhile, my circulatory system and everything is starting to recover, and flow through. (repeated smacking of fabric) Now. (air hissing) Now RP Sports actually
isn’t paying me to say this. I reached out to them, which tends to be the case for most products that
you’ll see in these vlogs, because I don’t want to be like, pitching hair gel just because
they’re paying me to do it. I want to just show you
what products I like, so I reached out to them, and I say, you mind if I
feature your stuff in my vlogs? And they said, sure. And then what they also committed to, is they will have a person,
like literally a person, you can pick up the
phone, call that person. Can’t remember, uh, Jenn? Jenn? You know what, you’re gonna
be seeing these boots a lot, but they will have a one on one person to help you out and give
you some consultation on which boots and which systems because there’s different
levels of the boots, some cost like $1000,
others are I think, $1600, but you can get somebody
that’ll help you out and tell you which
system is right for you. If you’re interested,
hit me up in a comment. Let me know what you think about these, and if you’re interested,
I’ll get you that person and that number. So now, I’m gonna go and edit the blog, and recover my face off. Back on June 25th — (rewinding) (pencil scratching) (static) (zipper) – Oh yeah. After yesterday’s 11 hours in a canoe. (deep breath) That was fantastic. The swim this morning
indicated that my body had rusty lawn chair syndrome. Whew. (engines rumbling) (water splashing) – Yeah he did. – One to one session, he showed up? – Yeah, exactly, you show up, you’re good. – All right. (water splashing) – All right, check this out. Brian and Nicole are doing
a pretty awesome drill. You need to know about this. Textbook. Yeah, so they’re actually doing drills that I am a big fan of, that I put in, the free swimming drill, learn to swim, 15 day drill swimming
series that I put together, where they’re putting on fins, to take the propulsion and the floating out of the equation with swimming. But what they want to work on, is a nice high elbow and not freaking out as you get that little
bit of a sinking feeling as you’re pausing. So if they roll onto their side, and then they pause, they don’t do a full stroke right now, they’re kind of coming up, and just pausing right there. And it reinforces that high elbow, getting it out of the water, and. And, and, and, what was the other thing I had in mind? Oh, just proper catch body roll mechanics. All good things. So Trainiacs, you remember
how I was telling you that I was trying to
build a Triathlon Taren, slash post-Taren social media agency studio, here, so that we could give
up the office downtown. Well, looks like the
bank came to their senses and realized that I
actually do have a job. Tricked them into thinking
that YouTubing is a job. A passion, it’s a lifestyle, deep down right there. So yeah, we have garage builders coming in and out over
the next week or so, and I think, certainly not very soon, but before the end of the year, we’re gonna be in there. That means a hell of a lot more training, hell of a lot more fun videos. We’re gonna customize this place into training Mecca. It’s gonna be a blast. Oh, also. Check this out. Kim made melons. Prizes for who makes the best NTK’s melons jokes in the comments. Guys, this is for who
can annoy her the most. I’m the leading champ.

  • You look silly with compression socks? What does those things make you look…

    Dog accessory melon:

  • Bulletproof logic:) – It is silly to walk around with compression socks on, but with this stuff…nobody will notice!

  • When you have moved to the new studio, is Mel-on-board with you guys?

  • Taren, point your toes on your flip turn!

  • Hey Taren. These boots saved my last Ironman 70.3. I did 20hrs of driving to get there and my legs got really tired. I put these boots on a night prior to the race and felt really good next day. Definitely recommending them. Great channel btw ?

  • NTK's melons are pistols! #BringBackPistol

  • 1. Any reason you didn't go the normatec route?
    2. Congrats on the studio approval
    3. Is the fencing there so Gracie and Petey don't lick NTKs melons?

  • You can put that on your Honey-dew list

  • Interested ??????

  • So if I'm not stationary in my job, compression tights through the day (provided I'm not to sweaty) and lift my legs (supported) at night for a while before bed, maybe even some foam roller time will do the same thing ?? I've got to be honest, I'm not sure I'm buying into this concept right now even if it was 1/4 of the price of what it is.

  • Why I am I reminded of Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks in Dragnet ?

  • Now that I've seen NTK's melons, I'd like to met her, but we cantaloupe….

  • Considering that you forgot your own wedding date, looks like all of us will be seeing NTK's melons more than you, Taren!

  • I purchases the air relax brand about a month ago. they rock and are significantly cheaper than normatec. Deinifitely would recommend

  • I would add to the fun but don't want to make her melancholy

  • sweet new toys! enjoy them.. down the road i can dream of getting them

  • If those researchers you're working with have any thoughts on compression, that'd be cool to hear. One of the things that I think is so crazy is the amount of science and research that goes into recovery and how much theory there is out there

  • wow, that pump alone is $1400..

  • Recovery Pump… I don't know??? As a professional triathlete and Ironman champion if you are going to spend that much you might as well just get Normatec. Otherwise, Air Relax at sub $400 is really a more attractive option. Here is a simple comparison of Normatec vs Air Relax for others that might be interested in alternatives:

  • Do you have a discount code for this product?

  • How is this the only video Ive seen with these boots and you?

  • Hello Taren,

Have you tried the Aquilo pants in Kona? Wonder what I should buy if I only had money for one recovery system:
    – Compression Boots ?
    – Ice-Compression Boots ?
    – Theragun or Hyperice ?

  • How is this product now?

  • These have been around for 3 decades in the medical field…also known as Joobs Pumps. They were "ify" if they even worked back then….just like that physio tape you see all the athletes wearing to correct muscle alignment which was proven ineffective two decades ago and is a complete joke in the medical field but yet you see olympic athletes wearing it all the time. You even see Athletes wearing TENS units for pain blocking….which was debunked as having any affect by the New England Journal of Medicine back in the late 1990's….but here were are almost 3 decades later and people are still using them. This is called the Placebo affect. When you pay $1,500 for a ballon that inflates around your legs…you either believe they work or you believe your an idiot for buying it. Money has already been spent you so you elect to believe they work and you feel great. Placebo has been shown to be almost effective as real medicine….and that is a fact.

  • Sir can I use this after leg day of my gym after workout

  • You can also checkout our Air relax san diego!! [email protected] we are the distributor here in SanDiego.

  • How often is recommended use? 2-3x/day?
